Fort Myers, Florida – Venezuelan pitcher Pablo López, a key figure in the Minnesota Twins’ rotation, will undergo Tommy John reconstructive surgery this Wednesday. The decision was made after confirming a significant tear in the ulnar collateral ligament of his right elbow.
A second medical opinion corroborated the initial diagnosis, paving the way for the right-handed pitcher to undergo surgery in Texas by specialist Keith Meister, recognized in the sports field.
This intervention will mark the second Tommy John surgery in López’s career. This fact represents a considerable challenge for the player and for the Minnesota organization, especially looking ahead to the 2026 season.
The estimated recovery period for this type of procedure in pitchers is around 12 months. This means that the Venezuelan will not be able to participate in the entire 2026 season. However, he is expected to be in condition to return to the mound for the start of the 2027 season.
