Seattle. The New York Yankees’ 11-5 victory over the Seattle Mariners was marred by a tense moment: Oswaldo Cabrera’s injury in the ninth inning, which required his transport by ambulance from T-Mobile Park.

The 26-year-old Venezuelan player was injured while trying to score from third base after a fly ball by Aaron Judge with the bases loaded. Cabrera, seeking to avoid the out, made a risky slide. Although he managed to score, his left ankle twisted, causing him pain.

It was a pretty serious situation. We’re praying for Cabby tonight. He’s one of us, one of the best of the best.

Aaron Boone, Yankees manager

The stadium fell silent as medical staff attended to the player. After a failed attempt to use a cart, an ambulance entered the field. Cabrera was immobilized and carried off on a stretcher, surrounded by distraught teammates.

It was devastating to see him like that. But even at that moment, he asked me if I had scored. I told him yes, and that brought a smile to his face.

Cabrera, in his fourth season in the Major Leagues and the most outstanding as a starter at third base, was batting .243 with a home run and 11 RBIs in 34 games. His effort and positive attitude have made him a highly valued player in the New York locker room.

Cabby does things right every day. You don’t just see it on the field, you feel it as a teammate.

Until the end of the game, the Yankees did not issue an official medical report, although they confirmed that Cabrera was taken to the hospital with head physician Tim Lentych.

While New York celebrates its athletic performance, the organization is attentive to the recovery of its teammate. As Boone recalled: “This is just a game, but what happened to Oswaldo reminds us how important it is to value those who give their all every day for the team”.
