Naomi Osaka: A Striking Look Debut in Australia

Japanese tennis player Naomi Osaka has starred in a stellar start at the Australian Open, not only for her performance on the court, but also for her choice of clothing, which has generated a great stir. Osaka, known for her bold style and connection to fashion, paraded down the center court of Rod Laver Arena in an outfit that was quickly dubbed “iconic.” The outfit, designed by herself in collaboration with Nike and Japanese designer Robert Wun, combined surprising and elegant elements. The tennis player appeared with a pleated skort under a dress, complemented by a wide-brimmed hat with a veil. The design, which she used during the match, was inspired by the “power of the jellyfish and the delicacy of the butterfly”, as explained by Osaka herself. The design of her attire was created in collaboration with Nike and Japanese designer Robert Wun, dressing the Japanese player, who usually attracts attention with her striking performances: sparkles, bright colors, giant bows.

This outfit is now iconic. It’s inspired by a jellyfish and I’m glad I can do what I like. There’s a butterfly on the hat and also on the umbrella. It has to do with the Australian Open that I won in 2021.
