BALTIMORE – The Baltimore Orioles are in mourning following the tragic death of young Venezuelan infielder Luis Guevara, who was only 19 years old. The player lost his life last Sunday due to a jet ski accident in Sarasota, Florida. The fatal incident took place near Lido Key, where two watercraft collided.
“Luis was a much-loved member of our organization and we are devastated by his tragic passing,” said Orioles general manager Mike Elias in an official statement.

Luis Guevara, born in Tinaco, Venezuela, was signed by the Orioles as an international free agent in January 2023. He showed notable progress in the Dominican Summer League (DSL) during the 2023 and 2024 seasons. This year, Guevara moved up to American baseball, participating in 24 games with Class-A Delmarva, two in Double-A Chesapeake, and four recently in the Florida Complex League (FCL). In a sign of mourning, the organization postponed its FCL commitments scheduled for Monday and Tuesday. Guevara’s legacy, marked by his effort, talent, and camaraderie, will be remembered with affection.
