Onésimo González will lead transportation at the 2026 Central American and Caribbean Games
Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. Engineer Onésimo González has been appointed to lead the transportation system for the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games, which will be held in Santo Domingo from July 24 to August 8, 2026.
González, who currently directs the National Student Transportation System (TRAE) and is a consultant in school mobility, will assume responsibility for designing the routes and planning the mobility of athletes, judges, and technical staff between the competition venues and the official accommodations.
In addition, it will be in charge of coordinating with the General Directorate of Traffic and Ground Transportation Safety (DIGESETT), the city councils, and the Ministry of Public Works and Communications. The objective is to ensure efficient and safe circulation during the sporting event.
With vast experience in the transportation sector, engineer González was director of the then Metropolitan Transportation Authority (AMET), now DIGESETT, and was responsible for the mobility system for the Santo Domingo 2003 Pan American Games.
The announcement was made after a working meeting between the president of the Organizing Committee of the Games, José P. Monegro, Onésimo González and his team.
Previously, President Luis Abinader ordered the National Student Transportation System (TRAE) to make its buses available for the Games. This measure is facilitated by the coincidence of the sporting event with the school vacation period.
“These buses are newly acquired and are in optimal condition to undertake this important task,” Monegro highlighted.

“We are pleased to have the experience and technical capacity of engineer Onésimo González, who has shown great enthusiasm for joining this sporting feat. “We are committed to offering an exemplary event that will enhance the Dominican Republic,” concluded Monegro.
