Dominican Oneil Cruz demonstrated his power by hitting an impressive home run that flew over PNC Park and landed in the Allegheny River, during the game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and the Minnesota Twins. This solo home run came against a cutter from Taj Bradley, with a 3-1 count, bringing Pittsburgh closer on the scoreboard 5-4. It was the twelfth home run of the season for the Dominican outfielder, who has 37 RBIs.

Cruz continues to extend his personal record at PNC Park, accumulating seven home runs that have reached the Allegheny, the most for a Pirates player. Four of those hits were connected in the 2024 season. The Dominican slugger seems to be regaining his offensive rhythm heading into June, after a May where he hit three home runs, after having hit nine between March and April.

Acuña Jr. Shines in the Braves’ Victory

In another game of the day, Ronald Acuña Jr. was key in the victory of the Atlanta Braves over the Cincinnati Reds, with a score of 8-3. The Venezuelan started the game with a 429-foot home run on the fourth pitch, continuing his good offensive momentum after hitting a grand slam the night before. Michael Harris II led Atlanta’s offense, batting 5-3 with three RBIs. Colombian Didier Fuentes earned the win in relief after overcoming a difficult situation in the fifth inning. The Braves secured the victory with a four-run rally in the sixth inning, with contributions from Dominican Jorge Mateo and Mike Yastrzemski. With this victory, Atlanta solidifies its position at the top of its division, while Acuña shows signs of returning to his best offensive level.
