Neymar in doubt for Brazil’s training camp: Edema in the calf
RIO DE JANEIRO – Brazilian star Neymar faces a situation that generates concern. The forward presents edema in the right calf, although the medical staff of Santos FC is optimistic about his recovery.
Despite the injury, Neymar is expected to be fit to join the Brazilian national team for the 2026 World Cup.
Rodrigo Zogaib, coordinator of the Santos Health Nucleus, explained that the injury is minor. The player’s progress will allow him to be available for the group led by Carlo Ancelotti on May 27.
The discomfort was detected after Santos’ 0-3 defeat against Coritiba last Sunday. The edema measures just two millimeters, but will force the player to remain out of action for between five and ten days.
This news comes shortly after Ancelotti included Neymar in the final list of 26 players called up by Brazil for the World Cup in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
If he manages to recover, the attacker will play his fourth World Cup, after being a star in the 2014, 2018 and 2022 editions.
As a result of the injury, Neymar will not be available for this Wednesday’s match against San Lorenzo for the Copa Sudamericana, nor for next weekend’s match for the Brazilian Championship.
The club does not rule out that the attacker could reappear next Tuesday against Deportivo Cuenca in the last matchday of the group stage of the Sudamericana.
Specialists from Santos and the player’s private doctors supervise the treatment at the Rey Pelé Training Center, while the medical department of the Brazilian Football Confederation constantly monitors his progress.
