Teresópolis, Brazil – Brazilian star Neymar did not participate in the first training session of the Brazilian national team this Wednesday, being transferred to a clinic in Teresópolis to undergo additional medical examinations, according to the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF). The Santos striker, called up by coach Carlo Ancelotti for the 2026 World Cup, arrived at the Granja Comary training center along with the rest of the players called up. However, he was absent from the afternoon practice. The CBF announced that Neymar was taken to a local clinic for additional medical evaluations, without offering details about the player’s physical condition. Neymar has been dealing with discomfort since May 17, when he suffered edema in his calf during a Brasileirao match with Santos. The club’s medical department subsequently reported a small calf injury, although his recovery was expected for the national team’s training camp. This situation generates uncertainty about the player’s physical condition, who has not played with the senior national team since the knee injury suffered in October 2023.
Neymar’s call-up by Ancelotti was surprising, as the Italian coach had not called him up since he took over the management of the national team in May 2025. Recently, the coach explained that he decided to include him after observing a positive evolution in his physical condition and greater competitive continuity with Santos.
The CBF has indicated that it will not provide any further information until all medical evaluations of the footballer are completed.
