Santo Domingo, D.N. – The Dominican Baseball Federation (Fedom) has announced the celebration of the “VII National U8 Championship”, an event that promises to be a celebration of children’s baseball. This year, the championship will have a special dedication to the outstanding former Major League player and upcoming member of the Dominican Sports Hall of Fame, Edwin Encarnación.The tournament will take place at the San Isidro Air Base, in Santo Domingo Este, starting September 14th. The participation of 44 teams from all over the country is expected, which represents a total of 792 young talents between 7 and 8 years old, competing on the exciting baseball fields.
A Tribute to Edwin Encarnación
Edwin Encarnación is an icon of our king sport in the Dominican Republic, a man who from the beginning gave everything for the country to shine in the Major Leagues, also in Lidom with the Águilas Cibaeñas and how not to remember him as the fourth batter with the team that filled us with glory in an undefeated way in the 2013 World Baseball Classic.The president of Fedom, Juan Núñez Nepomuceno, expressed his pride in the figure of Encarnación, highlighting his impact both on and off the field. Starting in 2025, teams will compete for the “Edwin Encarnación Cup” in the U8 National Championship, perpetuating his legacy in Dominican baseball.
Participating Teams
The championship will feature the participation of teams from various provinces and regions of the country, including representations from La Altagracia, Punta Cana, La Romana, El Higueral de Romana, Ocoa, La Vega, Nagua, Valverde, Duarte, San Cristóbal, Abeprosado, Independencia, Monte Plata, El Seibo, Distrito Nacional, the Tigres de Licey, Fuerza Aérea 1 and Fuerza Aérea 2.Also present will be the National Army A and National Army B, Norma Díaz League, Santos Guerrero de Peravia League, Samaná, Las Terrenas, La Bruja Puerto Plata, Altamira, Montellano, José Gómez League (Barahona), San Pedro de Macorís, Daniel García League (SPM), Santiago Sur and Santiago Norte.In addition, teams from Monte Cristi East and Monte Cristi West, the Cris Pérez League of Moca, López & Rumy Academy (Moca), the Alex Reyes League of San Juan de La Maguana, Team Chelo, Zona Norte and the José y Vidal League will compete. Sánchez Ramírez will be represented by Cotuí 1, Cotuí 2, El Pozo- La Mata 1 and 2, all seeking the coveted Edwin Encarnación Cup.
Event Coverage
Fans will be able to follow the championship action through VTV Channel 32, thanks to an agreement between Fedom and Grupo de Medios Panorama. In addition, the matches will be broadcast live on the YouTube channel of the Dominican Baseball Federation, “Fedobe Live”.This championship, along with the U6 and U10 tournaments, is part of the development events that the Dominican Baseball Federation organizes to support young talents in their first steps in the sport.
