The stellar Los Angeles Dodgers player, Mookie Betts, has confirmed his plans to retire from professional baseball at the end of the 2032 season. This announcement coincides with the conclusion of his current contract with the Los Angeles organization.
Betts, who will be 40 years old at the end of his contract, made this announcement during an interview with John Cena on Roku’s miniseries “What Drives You with John Cena”. He explained that his decision is driven by the desire to dedicate more time to his family.

The outfielder, also an infielder, has been a four-time World Series champion, three of them with the Dodgers. In addition, he was recognized as the American League MVP in 2018, playing for the Boston Red Sox. In July 2020, he signed a 12-year, $365 million contract with Los Angeles, shortly after joining the team.
In six seasons with the Dodgers, Betts has maintained an OPS of .867, has been called to four All-Star Games, and has been key in the 2020, 2024, and 2025 championships.
Currently 33 years old, Betts is preparing for his 13th season in the Major Leagues in 2026 and will continue to be a fundamental pillar for the Dodgers, who are looking to obtain their third consecutive title.
Orioles Could Be the Best Destination for Framber Valdez in Free Agency
The Dominican pitcher Framber Valdez remains the most sought-after arm available in free agency. Various analyses suggest that the Baltimore Orioles could be the ideal team to maximize his impact.
Although the interest in Valdez has not materialized as quickly as expected, due to factors such as his age, workload, and the Astros’ qualified offer, the market is beginning to reactivate after the signing of other star pitchers.
Valdez, known for generating ground balls, has maintained a ground ball rate of 62% since 2021, leading the Major Leagues in double plays induced during that period. This style of play highlights the importance of infield defense to optimize his performance.
Although the Chicago Cubs present the best defense among the interested teams, factors such as the number of left-handed hitters faced, the divisional environment, and the real need for starters place Baltimore as the most suitable destination for the Dominican pitcher.
Oriole Park at Camden Yards, along with a rotation that still lacks a dominant pitcher with high WAR production, reinforces the idea that the Orioles could be the perfect team for Valdez, who are looking to compete in a very competitive division.
Baltimore has already reinforced its offense during the winter, but the addition of Framber Valdez could be crucial to establish themselves as a real contender against teams like the Yankees, Blue Jays, and Red Sox.
