Robert Suárez, Suspended After Incidents in the Padres vs. Dodgers Game

Venezuelan pitcher Robert Suárez, of the San Diego Padres, has been suspended for three games and fined by Major League Baseball (MLB) following an incident that occurred during Thursday night’s game against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

The sanction was announced this Friday by the league, after Suárez intentionally threw a pitch at Shohei Ohtani in the ninth inning of the game.

Michael Hill, senior vice president of Field Operations at MLB, confirmed the suspension. However, Suárez has decided to appeal the decision, which will delay the application of the suspension until the disciplinary process is resolved.

In addition to Suárez, the commissioner’s office also sanctioned the managers of both teams for their participation in the altercation that occurred after the incident.

Mike Shildt of the Padres and Dave Roberts of the Dodgers each received a one-game suspension, along with undisclosed fines.

Shildt will serve his suspension this Friday, while Roberts will do the same in the Dodgers’ game.

The incident immediately generated tension on the field, with players from both teams coming out of their respective dugouts and bullpens. The hit by pitch to Ohtani, a prominent figure in the league, provoked various reactions on social media.

MLB has intensified its policies to prevent acts of retaliation and maintain discipline on the field, especially when key figures like Ohtani are involved, who did not suffer significant injuries after the impact.

The situation is still developing while Suárez’s appeal is resolved.
