SANTO DOMINGO. Miguel Tejada, known as “Pelotero de la Patria”, has been appointed as the new manager of the Bravos de León, a team belonging to the Mexican Baseball League (LMB).

Tejada takes the reins of the team after the departure of Matías Carrillo, who left the position after five series and 15 games in the 2025 season.

I wasn’t expecting it, I’m a baseball employee. The team asked me and as a good soldier of this sport, I accepted.

Nicknamed “La Guagua”, Tejada stated from Mexico that, although he did not expect the call, he accepted the challenge motivated by the support of the players and the confidence of the management.

With previous experience as a bench coach for the Mexican team, and having been a coach for the Águilas Cibaeñas in the Dominican league, including a brief period as manager during the 2014-2015 Round Robin (with a 3-3 record), Tejada considers this new role as his true entry into the full-time manager position.

I have always wanted to be a leader, but I was preparing myself as a coach and I will continue learning.

The former Major League player, where he excelled with teams like the Oakland Athletics, Baltimore Orioles, and Kansas City Royals, and winner of the American League Most Valuable Player award in 2002, is committed to leading the Bravos de León until the end of the season.

Currently, the team is in eighth position in the South Zone with a record of 6-9. Tejada’s immediate mission will be to improve the team’s position and take it to the Postseason, which they have not accessed since 2018.
