Mexico Prepares for the 2026 World Cup: Official Trophy Presentation

Mexico City is on the countdown to the 2026 World Cup. The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, presented the official trophy of the tournament this Tuesday during her morning conference at the National Palace. The event marks the beginning of the 100 days leading up to the opening match, which will be held on June 11 in the Mexican capital. “For the boys and girls who are in school and will then watch the conference on social media, today we bring you the Cup,” said the president when showing the trophy that will be awarded to the champion team on July 19th. In the presentation were Gabriela Cuevas, representative of the World Cup organization, and the Brazilian former footballer José Roberto Gama de Oliveira, known as Bebeto, world champion in 1994.

An Inclusive World Cup

Louis Balat, director of Coca-Cola Mexico, highlighted the commitment to make the World Cup an inclusive celebration.

“Our goal is for this World Cup to be for everyone, to be experienced in the squares, in the streets and in the communities of every corner of the country,” said the executive.

Balat also highlighted the national pride of hosting the world’s top football event, making Mexico the only country to organize three World Cups, after the 1970 and 1986 editions.

Trophy Tour in Mexico

The trophy will undertake a national tour that will visit 10 cities, offering free access to the public. This initiative seeks to inspire children and young people who dream of football.

Mexico, along with the United States and Canada, will host the 2026 World Cup. The country will host a total of 13 matches in Mexico City, Guadalajara, and Monterrey. President Sheinbaum reiterated FIFA’s confidence in the organization of the tournament in Mexico, highlighting the support of the president of the organization, Gianni Infantino. With the arrival of the trophy and the start of the countdown, Mexico immerses itself in the World Cup atmosphere, preparing for one of the most important sporting events in its history.
