New York – The New York Mets have announced a significant change in their pitching staff. Experienced Dominican pitcher Frankie Montás will be moved to the bullpen, leaving a vacancy in the rotation.
Sources close to the team indicate that the club’s top pitching prospect, Nola McLean, could fill that spot. There is speculation that McLean could make his debut this Saturday against the Seattle Mariners.
This decision comes after a difficult period for Montás, who has struggled on the mound. In eight starts this season, Montás has recorded an ERA of 6.38. The pitcher rejoined the team at the end of June after recovering from a right lat strain, but has not managed to regain his best form.
In his last three outings, Montás allowed 13 earned runs in 11.1 innings.
He’ll be the first to say it’s been a battle for him. He’s a competitor and wants to break out, but understands the results haven’t been there.
The Mets’ rotation has underperformed, ranking 25th in collective ERA since June 13th. The team hopes this change will generate better results in overall performance.
Montás, 32 years old, signed a two-year contract for 34 million dollars, with 17 million guaranteed for 2026, during the offseason.
