VID Music Group Sues Messi and AFA for Breach of Contract
The American company VID Music Group has filed a lawsuit against Lionel Messi and the Argentine Football Association (AFA), alleging breach of contract related to two friendly matches played in October 2025.
According to court documents, the promoter claims to have acquired the exclusive rights for seven million dollars to organize and promote the matches of the Argentine national team against Venezuela and Puerto Rico.
The core of the dispute lies in the alleged failure to comply with the agreed conditions, particularly regarding Messi’s participation in the first match.
The contract stipulated that Messi had to play at least 30 minutes in the match against Venezuela, held on October 10. The absence of the player, according to the lawsuit, affected attendance, which remained at around 15,000 people, leading to economic losses.
The promoter also claims to have been notified of Messi’s absence a few hours before the event, which impacted the public’s confidence in subsequent commitments.
Regarding the second friendly against Puerto Rico, VID Music Group alleges additional losses estimated at $1.3 million. The change of venue for the match, originally scheduled in Chicago and moved to Florida, reduced the stadium’s capacity and limited the time for promotion and ticket sales.
Furthermore, the lawsuit indicates that the AFA allegedly promised the organization of three matches in China as compensation, which, according to the complaint, were never carried out.
The legal action includes charges of breach of contract, unjust enrichment, and alleged fraudulent inducement, also involving an agent linked to the negotiations.
The case is ongoing in the Miami-Dade County judicial system. VID Music Group has announced that it will offer more details at a press conference in the coming days.
