Real Madrid defeats Levante amidst tension at the Bernabéu

Real Madrid achieved a 2-0 victory against Levante at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium, a triumph marred by the clear manifestation of discontent from the fans, who expressed their displeasure with whistles towards the team despite the result.

The goals of the merengue team came in the second half. Kylian Mbappé, from the penalty spot, opened the scoring in the 58th minute. Raúl Asencio sealed the match with a header that sealed the final 2-0 eight minutes later.

The match was marked by the reaction of the fans, visibly upset by the team’s recent results. In the last eight days, Real Madrid lost the Spanish Super Cup final against Barcelona (3-2) and was eliminated in the round of 16 of the Copa del Rey against Albacete (3-2). Added to this was the debut of Álvaro Arbeloa as coach, after the departure of Xabi Alonso.

From the warm-up, with a not completely full Bernabéu, the first whistles began. These intensified during the announcement of the starting lineup.

Vinícius Jr. and Jude Bellingham were the players most singled out by the crowd, receiving constant whistles during the match.

The atmosphere didn’t calm down even at the start of the match. Without the anthem playing over the loudspeakers, whistles and handkerchiefs reappeared as a sign of disapproval. Even the club president, Florentino Pérez, was the target of some isolated shouts calling for his resignation.

In contrast, Arbeloa’s debut on the Bernabéu bench did not generate a notable reaction among the fans.

Despite the adverse environment, Real Madrid managed to add three points that momentarily alleviate the tension, although the public’s response showed the delicate moment the team is going through.
