Max Muncy to the Injured List: Dodgers Lose Offensive Star

The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced that Max Muncy, their outstanding third baseman, has been placed on the 10-day injured list. The news comes after suffering a bone contusion in his left knee, an injury that will keep him out of action for at least six weeks.

Muncy’s injury occurred during Wednesday’s game against the Chicago White Sox, when he collided with Michael A. Taylor during a steal attempt. Muncy’s knee bent in a concerning manner, forcing him to remain on the field with obvious signs of pain.

Despite the severity of the incident, initial tests and a subsequent MRI ruled out major structural damage, such as sprains or ligament injuries. However, the bone contusion will require a prolonged recovery period.

Muncy, who had an outstanding June, batting .333 with seven home runs and an OPS of 1.113, was showing signs of recovery after a slower start to the season. Overall, his offensive performance includes a .250/.375/.457 average, with 13 home runs and 55 RBIs.

To cover Muncy’s absence on the roster, the Dodgers have called up Dominican outfielder Esteury Ruiz from Triple-A Oklahoma City. Ruiz, famous for his speed, set an American League record in 2023 by stealing 67 bases as a rookie with the Athletics. His participation in 2024 has been limited to 29 games. The Dodgers acquired him on April 2 in a trade with the Padres.

Venezuelan Miguel Rojas was included in the lineup as the starting third baseman for Thursday’s game.
