Ketel Marte leads Diamondbacks offense in victory over Giants
SAN FRANCISCO – Ketel Marte had an outstanding offensive performance, leading the Diamondbacks to an 8-7 victory over the Giants at Oracle Park. With two home runs hit, Marte was the key figure in this triumph that secured the series and ended a demanding streak of 16 consecutive games without rest against contending teams. The Diamondbacks finished this challenge with an 8-8 record against the Mets, Phillies, Dodgers, and Giants.
The Dominican started the offense with a solo home run in the first inning and then added another two-run homer in the fourth. Marte, who recently returned from an injury, was replaced in the seventh by Jordan Lawlar due to a hip ailment. However, he is expected to be available for the weekend series against the Rockies.
Eugenio Suárez also contributed a three-run homer. Starter Eduardo Rodríguez (4.0 IP, 4 ER) had early support from the offense, which scored in each of the first four innings. The bullpen, with combined performances by Ryan Thompson, Ryne Nelson, and Shelby Miller, held the lead and secured the victory.
We are a little emotionally drained. But the guys keep competing.
Torey Lovullo, Diamondbacks Manager
Despite the challenges, including the absence of their main relievers, A.J. Puk and Justin Martínez, and a demanding schedule, the D-backs demonstrate resilience. With a record of 23-21 in 44 games, they remain competitive in the National League.
I don’t know if we played our best baseball, but we fought. I think we’re playing cleaner and more consistently now.
Mike Hazen, General Manager
The team will have a day off on Thursday before hosting the Rockies. Subsequently, they will face the Dodgers and Cardinals. Martínez’s return is anticipated next week, while Puk could return in mid or late June.
With Mars in a great moment, an alignment that is consolidating and key players in the process of recovery, Arizona seeks to continue adding victories and consolidate as a contender in the second half of the season.
