Madrid – The organizers of the Madrid circuit, home to the Spanish Formula One Grand Prix from September 11 to 13, plan to hold a national race as a preliminary test. The main objective is to verify that the layout meets all the necessary requirements. This initiative was revealed by José Vicente de los Mozos, president of the Ifema Executive Committee, during a visit to inspect the progress on the construction of the new circuit, located in the fairgrounds and the Valdebebas neighborhood. In addition, contacts have been established with the Royal Spanish Automobile Federation, the entity that would be in charge of supervising and validating the test.

Low-level test for evaluation

Our intention is to organize a smaller-scale race before September 11th to evaluate the vehicles’ performance and avoid incidents like the one that occurred in Las Vegas.

José Vicente de los Mozos
De los Mozos referred to the incident at the Las Vegas urban Grand Prix last November, where a manhole cover came loose, interrupting practice. According to the Ifema director, this matter is being coordinated between the management of the new Formula One circuit, known as Madring, the Motorsport Federation, and the High Council for Sports.
