LVBP Resumes Semifinal Round Robin on January 7th

The Venezuelan Professional Baseball League (LVBP) officially announced the resumption of the semifinal Round Robin, after the temporary suspension of activities. The Venezuelan championship will restart on Wednesday, January 7, according to a statement issued by the league. The LVBP, in collaboration with the qualified teams, will report on the restructuring of the schedule to ensure the development of the competition and complete the current phase of the tournament. It is expected that the resumption will follow the original schedule planned for Wednesday 7th. The Navegantes del Magallanes will receive the Águilas del Zulia, and the Cardenales de Lara will face the Caribes de Anzoátegui. Both games are scheduled for 7:00 p.m. If the actions resume as expected, the ten suspended matches between Saturday 3rd and Tuesday 6th could be recovered through doubleheaders or adjustments to the schedule, including changes to the start date of the final series.

Economic Impact of the Suspension

The suspension of four full game days represents a significant economic impact for the LVBP, whose main source of income comes from the sale of tickets, food, beverages, official merchandise, and sponsorships. In recent seasons, the league has had a cumulative attendance of nearly 1.9 million fans, adding together the regular season and the postseason. For the 2025-26 season, the average ticket price has ranged between US$3 and US$50, depending on the stadium and location. With an estimated average attendance of 7,000 fans per game and an average ticket price of US$15, each game could generate around US$105,000 in ticket sales alone, a figure that demonstrates the magnitude of the economic loss caused by the temporary suspension of the tournament.
