CLEARWATER, Florida – The Philadelphia Phillies have secured the permanence of Venezuelan pitcher Jesús Luzardo through a five-year, $135 million contract extension.

The agreement, which is still pending official announcement by the club, would extend the 28-year-old left-hander’s stay with the Philadelphia organization until the 2031 season.

Before this agreement, Luzardo was scheduled to become a free agent after the 2026 season.

The Phillies acquired the Miami Marlins pitcher before last season, a move that proved to be crucial for the team’s rotation.

In his first season with Philadelphia, Luzardo demonstrated outstanding performance, establishing himself as one of the most outstanding pitchers in the National League.

The lefty finished with a 15-7 record, a 3.92 ERA, and a total of 216 strikeouts in 183.2 innings pitched, earning him seventh place in the voting for the National League Cy Young Award.

In his seven seasons in the Major Leagues, Luzardo has accumulated an ERA of 4.19 in 137 appearances, with 121 of them as a starter.

With this extension, the Phillies strengthen their strategy of maintaining stability in their rotation and secure one of their key pitchers for the near future in Major League Baseball.
