CLEARWATER, Florida – The Philadelphia Phillies have secured the continuity of Venezuelan pitcher Jesús Luzardo through a five-year, $135 million contract extension.

Although the club has not yet made the official announcement, sources close to the negotiation confirmed the agreement on Monday.

This pact will keep the 28-year-old left-handed pitcher in the Philadelphia organization through the 2031 season.

Before this extension, Luzardo was expected to become a free agent after the 2026 season.

The acquisition of Luzardo by the Phillies, coming from the Miami Marlins before the previous season, proved to be a crucial move to strengthen the team’s rotation.

In his first season with Philadelphia, Luzardo demonstrated an outstanding performance that positioned him among the most outstanding pitchers in the National League.

His performance included a 15-7 record, a 3.92 ERA, and 216 strikeouts in 183.2 innings pitched, earning him seventh place in the National League Cy Young Award voting.

Throughout his seven seasons in the Major Leagues, Luzardo has maintained an ERA of 4.19 in 137 appearances, of which 121 have been as a starter.

With this extension, the Phillies reaffirm their commitment to stability in their rotation and secure one of their key pitchers for the near future in MLB.
