Luis Gil Starts in Triple-A, Awaiting the Call to the Yankees in 2026
MESA, ARIZONA – Dominican pitcher Luis Gil will start the 2026 season in Triple-A, awaiting integration into the New York Yankees’ rotation later on. Manager Aaron Boone announced that the 2024 American League Rookie of the Year will start the season in Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. This decision is part of the team’s plan to continue the pitcher’s development and allow his integration as a fifth starter when needed. Gil, 27 years old, recorded a 2-1 record with an ERA of 4.66 during spring training, after pitching 57 innings the previous season. The Yankees’ coaching staff is confident in his good physical condition and hopes that he can contribute to the team during the season by being called up to the Major Leagues.Boone explained that this decision is not based on poor performance in the preseason, but rather on the current structure of the team’s pitching staff and internal competition for rotation spots.
