Santo Domingo – Dominican athletics celebrates the return of Luguelin Santos to the international scene. The sprinter, after serving a three-year suspension, demonstrated his ability by obtaining second place in the 400 meters indoors during the Meeting de L’Eure, held in France.
The event marked Santos’ official return to competition this 2026. The athlete from Bayaguana competed on February 1st in the European event, recording a time of 48.27 seconds in the final of the 400 meters indoor.
The test was led by his compatriot Lidio Andrés Félix, who crossed the finish line in 47.82 seconds. Frenchman Jacques Ehrmann completed the podium.
Santos, Olympic runner-up in London 2012, was out of the tracks since 2023. This, after being sanctioned by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU), after admitting the use of a passport with an incorrect date of birth. The objective was to compete in the 2012 World Junior Athletics Championships.
The sprinter was stripped of the junior world title and received a three-year suspension.
Following the decision, the athlete offered a public apology for what happened.
In other outstanding results from the Meeting de L’Eure, Alexander Ogando won the final 2 of the 400 meters, with a time of 46.54 seconds. In the women’s category, Milagros Durán won the 400-meter race with a time of 54.75 seconds.
The return of Luguelin Santos represents a new chapter in the career of the outstanding Dominican sprinter, who seeks to regain his place in international athletics.
