Tampa, Florida – The Tampa Bay Rays announced that iconic third baseman Evan Longoria will sign a ceremonial one-day contract to officially retire with the team that saw him shine.
The ceremony is scheduled for Saturday, June 7th at George M. Steinbrenner Field, just before the game against the Miami Marlins.
Longoria, 39, played his first 10 seasons in the Major Leagues with the Rays (2008-2017) and is considered a fundamental pillar in the transformation of the franchise.
He was Rookie of the Year in 2008, a three-time All-Star, winner of three Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger, and was key in the Rays’ historic advance to their first World Series that same year.
“Evan embodies what it means to be a Ray. His impact on and off the field defined an era and laid the foundation for our success as a franchise,” said Stuart Sternberg, principal owner of the club.

During his time in Tampa Bay, Longoria set significant records: he leads the franchise in games played (1,435), runs (780), doubles (338), home runs (261), RBIs (892), and other offensive categories.
“His home run in Game 162 of 2011 will be remembered forever as one of the most iconic moments in baseball,” highlighted Erik Neander, president of baseball operations for the Rays.

In addition to his sporting impact, Longoria and his wife Jaime stood out for their commitment to the Tampa Bay community.
The June 7th event will be a tribute to his career and legacy, allowing him to end his professional career where it all began: as a Tampa Bay Ray.
