Francisco Lindor Avoids Injured List Despite Fracture

The New York Mets’ star shortstop, Francisco Lindor, has managed to avoid the injured list after suffering a fracture in the pinky toe of his right foot. The injury occurred during Wednesday’s game against the Dodgers at Dodger Stadium.

The fracture was the result of a hit by a pitch from an 89 mph slider thrown by Tony Gonsolin. Lindor, after being hit, briefly left the game, but insisted on returning to play and even asked manager Carlos Mendoza to play the next day.

It’s a matter of tolerating the pain.

Medical tests confirmed the fracture, but fortunately, the affected bone does not compromise the joint, so it does not require absolute rest. The team will evaluate Lindor’s progress day by day, with a positive prognosis.

While Lindor recovers, Venezuelan rookie Luisángel Acuña will take over at shortstop, with Ronny Mauricio as backup, although the latter is still in the process of recovering from multiple knee surgeries.

Lindor, runner-up for the NL MVP Award in 2024, is having an outstanding season in 2025. His numbers include a .279 batting average, 14 home runs, and 11 stolen bases in 61 games. His leadership and performance are crucial for the Mets, who already have 13 comeback wins this season.

The player recalled a similar situation in 2022, when he played after fracturing a finger with a hotel door.

It’s part of depending on your body. This is what God wanted this week, and we’ll deal with it. It could have been worse

Manager Mendoza highlighted the communication and trust between Lindor, the coaching staff, and the medical team.

Francisco knows his body better than anyone. We will evaluate him day by day based on how he feels and what the medical staff tells us.
