Santo Domingo – The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) has decided to completely suspend Friday’s games. This measure is due to the indirect effects of Tropical Storm Melissa, which continues to impact various areas of the country. The suspension is based on the recommendations of meteorological and emergency authorities, as well as the current conditions of the stadiums. League delegates confirmed that several playing fields are not in optimal condition for matches. According to reports from the National Hurricane Center (NHC), Melissa could intensify into a hurricane between Friday night and Saturday. This increases the risk of heavy rain, wind gusts, and possible flooding.

Suspended Matches

The postponed matches are:
  • Gigantes del Cibao vs. Toros del Este, at the Julián Javier Stadium in San Francisco de Macorís (7:00 p.m.)
  • Leones del Escogido vs. Águilas Cibaeñas, at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium in Santo Domingo (7:15 p.m.)
  • Estrellas Orientales vs. Tigres del Licey, at the Tetelo Vargas Stadium in San Pedro de Macorís (7:30 p.m.)
This is the third consecutive day that LIDOM is forced to postpone due to the adverse weather conditions caused by Melissa. The league announced that the new dates for the matches will be announced soon, once the weather conditions and the grounds allow it, in collaboration with the teams involved. LIDOM reaffirmed its commitment to the safety of players, fans, and stadium staff. In addition, it urged the population to stay informed through the official channels of the emergency services.
