LIDOM Cancels Game Between Eagles and Bulls Due to Regulatory Infraction
The Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM) has made a transcendental decision following a protest filed by the Toros del Este. The game played on Friday, January 16th between the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Toros del Este, held at the Francisco A. Micheli stadium in La Romana, has been annulled.
The Toros’ protest was based on an alleged violation of the league’s regulations. According to the claim, the Águilas registered nine imported players on their roster for the match, exceeding the permitted limit of eight.
The situation required the direct intervention of the president of LIDOM, Vitelio Mejía, who evaluated the arguments of both parties. Although LIDOM accepted the protest in terms of form, it rejected the request to forfeit the game in favor of the Toros.
The game, which had ended with a 6-2 victory for the Águilas Cibaeñas, will only be rescheduled if necessary, depending on the result of the match between the Águilas Cibaeñas and the Leones del Escogido, scheduled for Sunday, January 18th.
In the Eagles’ roster, Odrisamer Despaigne, Guadalupe Chávez, Matt Foster, Yoan López, A.J. Puckett, Elih Marrero, Sebastián Rivero, Rodolfo Amador, and Juan Carlos Bengoa were listed as imports, although only six of them actively participated in the game.
If the Eagles win their game against the Leones del Escogido, both teams, Eagles and Toros, would be tied with a record of 11-7, which would force the repetition of the canceled game in La Romana.
The Águilas Cibaeñas are in a crucial position, forced to win their next games to keep their aspirations of advancing to the championship final alive.
