Leones del Escogido Secure Their Spot in the Dominican Baseball Final
The Leones del Escogido have secured their place in the Dominican baseball final series for the second consecutive year, after a resounding 7-3 victory over the Gigantes del Cibao.
This triumph, celebrated at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, not only grants them passage to the final, but also guarantees them first place in the Round Robin.
With a record of 12-5, the Scarletts secure the advantage of playing the final at home.
Pitcher Radhamés Liz had an outstanding performance from the mound, pitching 4.1 innings without allowing runs, with three strikeouts and one walk, although he did not get the win.
The Lions’ offense ignited in the second inning, when Elih Villanueva issued a walk to Michael De la Cruz, driving in the first run of the game.
In the fifth inning, Jorge Mateo and Alcides Escobar scored thanks to a double by Erik González. Subsequently, a wild pitch and a ground ball by Junior Lake extended the lead.
The Giants tried to react with two runs in the sixth inning and one more in the eighth. However, Yamaico Navarro hit a solo home run to left field, increasing the Lions’ lead. Jorge Mateo also contributed with two RBIs in the eighth.
The victory went to Kenny Hernández (1-0), while Elih Villanueva (0-1) took the loss. Stephen Nogosek earned the save (2).
Regarding the Lions’ offense, Erik González stood out with a double and two RBIs, Yamaico Navarro with a home run, Junior Lake with an RBI and three stolen bases, and Jorge Mateo with two RBIs.
For the Giants, Edwin Espinal hit a double and Leury García went 2-for-4, with a double and an RBI.
