Leones del Escogido Strengthen Their Rotation with José Urquidy for the Postseason
The Leones del Escogido have announced the incorporation of right-handed pitcher José Urquidy to strengthen their team for the postseason of the Dominican professional baseball tournament. The news was confirmed by the Baseball Operations management of the organization. Urquidy, 30 years old, arrives at the scarlet team with an outstanding career in the Major Leagues, accumulating six seasons of experience between 2019 and 2025. During this period, he recorded a record of 27-16, with an ERA of 4.00, a WHIP of 1.15 and a total of 329 strikeouts in 407.1 innings pitched. The Mexican pitcher was part of the Houston Astros team that was crowned World Series champion in 2022. His performance in the Fall Classic included three scoreless innings against the Philadelphia Phillies, allowing only one hit and striking out four batters.In the recent fall-winter season, Urquidy participated with the Venados de Mazatlán in the Mexican Pacific League. His performance was notable, with an ERA of 1.09, a WHIP of 0.84, and 35 strikeouts in 33.0 innings. In addition, he achieved a record of 3-1 and a batting average allowed of .183. Urquidy is expected to join the rotation of the Leones del Escogido, a team that will seek to add another title to its 17 national championships. The team will begin its participation in the Round Robin this Saturday, December 27, facing the Águilas Cibaeñas at 5:00 p.m. at the Cibao stadium.Urquidy’s arrival gives us a proven pitcher with experience in high-demand scenarios.
