Leones del Escogido roar to victory against the Águilas Cibaeñas

An explosive start in the first episode marked the path to victory for the Leones del Escogido, who prevailed 7-3 over the Águilas Cibaeñas this Friday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.

The scarlet offensive ignited from the start with a solo home run by Héctor Rodríguez, sending the ball 392 feet to right field against Luis Patiño’s pitches. Yainer Díaz reached base on a fielder’s choice, Yamaico Navarro singled, Franchy Cordero received a walk to load the bases, and finally, consecutive walks to Eguy Rosario and Jonathan Guzmán drove in two more runs.

The Eagles tried to react in the fourth inning, loading the bases against Travis Lakins. A sacrifice fly by Juan Lagares drove in Aderlin Rodríguez, and a single by Webster Rivas added another run for the Cibaeños.

However, the Lions responded immediately in the bottom of the fourth. Dervy Ventura hit a double to left field and scored thanks to a single by Junior Lake. Socrates Brito reached base on a fielder’s choice, stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error by catcher Rivas, before scoring on a single to center by Yainer Díaz.

In this game, Junior Lake reached a personal milestone by becoming the fifth player in LIDOM history to steal 130 bases in regular season play.

El Escogido scored one more run in the seventh inning and another in the eighth to secure the victory, improving their record to 17-24, while the Águilas remained at 28-12.

Génesis Cabrera (1-0) earned the victory, pitching a scoreless inning with a strikeout. The loss went to Luis Patiño (0-1), who allowed three runs in two-thirds of an inning.

Regarding the Lions’ offense, Yainer Díaz stood out, batting 5-2 with one RBI and one run scored; Héctor Rodríguez, 5-1 with a home run, one run scored, and one RBI; Junior Lake, 3-1 with one RBI, one run scored, two walks, and one stolen base; and Sócrates Brito, 4-1 with a run scored, a walk, and a steal. For the Eagles, Aderlin Rodríguez went 5-3 with one RBI and one run scored, and Webster Rivas, 4-1 with one RBI.

The Lions will return to action on Saturday, when they receive the Gigantes del Cibao at 4:00 in the afternoon at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.
