SAN FRANCISCO DE MACORÍS – A three-run rally in the eighth inning propelled the Leones del Escogido to a 4-2 victory over the Gigantes del Cibao, in a vibrant game played on Monday at the Julián Javier stadium. This triumph consolidates the undefeated record of the melenudos in the Round Robin of the Dominican professional baseball tournament.
The current national and Caribbean champions, now holding a 3-0 record, demonstrated their offensive prowess by overcoming a 2-1 deficit in the eighth inning.
With two outs and Raimel Tapia on first, Jorge Mateo hit an infield hit that advanced Tapia to second. Elier Hernández responded with a double that drove in both runners, turning the score around. Subsequently, Hernández scored thanks to a single by Pedro Severino.
The Lions’ first run came in the fifth inning, with a single by Socrates Brito. The Giants had taken the lead early with a solo home run by Luis García Jr. in the first inning and added another run in the fifth with a double by Hanser Alberto.
Elier Hernandez hit a double to center field that drove in both runners, turning the score around.
From the bullpen, Aneurys Zabala pitched a scoreless inning with two strikeouts, maintaining the lead for the Lions. The victory went to Carlos Teller (1-0), while Wandy Peralta (0-1) took the loss.
