Santo Domingo – Los Leones del Escogido celebrate their 105th anniversary this Tuesday, an emblematic date that commemorates their founding on February 17, 1921. This milestone comes at a promising sporting moment, marked by recent successes and a rich history in Dominican professional baseball. The capital team arrives at this celebration after being crowned champions in the 2025-26 season, achieving their 18th title. The victory was achieved after defeating the Toros del Este in a final series that extended to five exciting games. In that memorable final series, the figures of Junior Lake, Erik González and Sócrates Brito shone with their offense, under the strategic direction of Ramón Santiago.The organization has won championships in various eras, from the mid-20th century to the present, including five Caribbean Series titles. Eduardo Najri, club president, has emphasized the board’s commitment to preserving the competitive tradition and institutional identity of the team, which is based at the Quisqueya Stadium. Throughout their history, the Leones del Escogido have had the talent of legendary players such as Juan Marichal, David Ortiz, and Starling Marte. Their first successes date back to 1922, the year they won their first national championship, with the outstanding participation of Tetelo Vargas.
