MIAMI (EFE) – LeBron James, the Los Angeles Lakers legend, will honor his twenty-third season in the NBA with a special emblem on his uniform. This tribute, which begins this Monday and will extend until the end of the season, will also be immortalized in limited edition collectible cards. The Topps company announced that the patch will debut at this Monday’s game in Sacramento, the city that marked the beginning of James’ professional career in 2003. After each game, the patches will be removed from his uniform and some will be integrated into ultra-rare cards, aimed at the collectors’ market.

A commemorative design

The patch design is divided into four colors, each representing LeBron’s most significant stages in the league: his first stage with the Cleveland Cavaliers, his time with the Miami Heat, his return to Cleveland, and his current stage with the Lakers. In addition, the patch incorporates the number 23, which symbolizes both his seasons in active play and his most emblematic jersey number, and a silhouette of James with his arms raised, evoking his well-known pre-game ritual.

More NBA recognitions

LeBron, at 41 years old, won’t be the only player to wear a special patch this season. The NBA has implemented commemorative badges for rookies in their debut, as well as for the winners of the MVP, Rookie of the Year, and Defensive Player of the Year awards from the previous season.
