Guadalajara, Mexico. The leader Ramón Santiago has expressed his confidence in the right-handed pitcher Travis Lakins, who will be the starter for the Leones del Escogido, representing the Dominican Republic, in this Wednesday’s game against the Federales de Chiriquí of Panama, in the 2026 Caribbean Series. The Dominican team will seek to maintain its undefeated record with a 3-0 mark in the Caribbean tournament. Santiago trusts that Lakins will offer a solid performance from the mound.

We are in a good position, but we must maintain the same intensity. We hope that Lakins gives us a quality performance that helps us keep winning.

Lakins, 31, is participating in the Caribbean Series for the first time and was a key player in the Escogido’s Lidom championship win. In the complete season, including all stages, the right-hander had a 5-1 record, with an ERA of 3.02, a WHIP of 1.12, and 34 strikeouts in 50.1 innings pitched.

I must start the game well and set the tone from the first inning, looking to get outs quickly. If I execute my pitches, attack the strike zone and limit hard contact, everything will be fine.

The American pitcher has experience in Mexican baseball, as in the summer of 2025 he was part of the starting rotation of the Algodoneros de Unión Laguna, in the Mexican Baseball League, which gives him additional knowledge of the environment. The current Caribbean champions have demonstrated their dominance from the mound in the tournament, leading the collective pitching with an effectiveness of 2.50 and a batting average allowed of .234 to opponents, as occurred in the Round Robin and the Final Series of the Lidom. The match between the Dominican Republic and Panama will be played this Wednesday at 4:00 PM (Dominican time) at the Pan American Stadium. The Lions will play again on Thursday, facing the Tomateros de Culiacán (Green Mexico) at 8:00 PM, with Radhamés Liz announced as the starting pitcher.
