Knicks take 2-0 lead over Sixers in Eastern Conference Semifinals
New York, United States. The New York Knicks solidified their dominance in the Eastern Conference semifinals by defeating the Philadelphia 76ers with a score of 108-102 at Madison Square Garden on Wednesday night. The match was characterized by the absence of Joel Embiid, a key player for the Sixers.
Jalen Brunson led the Knicks’ offense with 26 points, once again demonstrating his ability to take the lead in crucial moments. Karl-Anthony Towns, the Dominican-American player, also had an outstanding performance, recording a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds, in addition to dishing out seven assists.
With this victory, the Knicks are two wins away from returning to the Eastern Conference Finals, a stage where they were eliminated last season by the Indiana Pacers.
Despite Embiid’s absence due to hip discomfort and a sprained right ankle, the 76ers showed improvement compared to the first game of the series. Tyrese Maxey led Philadelphia’s offense with 26 points. Paul George had an explosive start, keeping the Sixers competitive for much of the game.
The Sixers managed to dominate some stretches of the game and went into halftime with a slight lead of 62-61, thanks to their effective shooting from long distance and a defensive strategy that caused Towns to accumulate fouls quickly.
However, in the last quarter, the Sixers experienced an offensive drought that lasted almost six minutes. The Knicks took advantage of this situation, driven by Brunson, who scored five consecutive points during an important 9-0 run that defined the match.
OG Anunoby also contributed significantly with 24 points, while Mikal Bridges added 18 for the Knicks, who defended their court and maintain control of the series before traveling to Philadelphia.
In the other conference semifinal played on Wednesday, the San Antonio Spurs faced the Minnesota Timberwolves seeking to tie the Western series.
