Skenes Shines on the Mound as Pirates Dominate Cincinnati

Star right-handed pitcher Paul Skenes proved his worth once again, leading the Pittsburgh Pirates to a resounding 7-0 victory over the Cincinnati Reds in the first game of the series at PNC Park.

Skenes, with a masterful performance, threw six impeccable innings, keeping the Reds’ offense at bay. Despite allowing seven hits, the most in his 47 starts, he knew how to control the situation, keeping the scoreboard at zero.

Cincinnati’s inability to capitalize on opportunities was evident, going 0-5 with runners in scoring position and leaving six men on base in the first six innings. This outstanding performance by Skenes not only secured the victory but also lowered his ERA to an impressive 1.94, the best in the Major Leagues, and extended his scoreless streak against Cincinnati to 22 innings.

Pittsburgh’s bullpen completed the shutout, with Cam Sanders, Ryan Borucki, and Kyle Nicolas pitching one inning each without allowing any runs.

The Pirates’ offense backed Skenes’ performance early. Bryan Reynolds ignited the spark with a solo home run in the first inning, followed by a two-run single by Jared Triolo in the same episode.

In the seventh inning, Henry Davis extended the lead with a two-run home run, marking his first home run since June 7.

Reynolds, Triolo, and Davis led the attack with two hits each, while Andrew McCutchen stood out by receiving four walks, tying his personal best.

With this victory, the Pirates (50-66) break a losing streak and gain momentum in the divisional series.
