Cleveland – Two-time Cy Young Award winner Corey Kluber has returned to the Cleveland organization, but this time he’s taking on a different role: special assistant to pitching. The announcement was confirmed this Tuesday, as the former pitcher shared the field with the team’s young talents at Progressive Field.

After retiring following the 2023 season, Kluber begins a new stage whose role will be defined throughout the season. His main objective will be to collaborate with the Major League pitchers of the Guardians, contributing his vast experience alongside the coaching staff.

“A lot of this is figuring it out as we go. Nothing is set in stone, but I think it’s about finding the best ways for me to contribute. I’m not looking to take anything away from anyone, but simply to use the experience I have as a resource.”

Kluber, 38, is an emblematic figure in modern Cleveland pitching. During his 13 seasons in the Major Leagues, nine of them with the club, he was called to three All-Star Games. In addition, he led MLB in ERA in 2017, pitched a no-hitter in 2021, and finished among the top three in the Cy Young voting in four seasons.

His return has been enthusiastically received by the team, especially by manager Stephen Vogt, who values the influence Kluber can have on the pitching staff.

“Who better than Corey Kluber to influence your starting pitching, especially, and your pitchers in general?” the manager stated.

The presence of Kluber, along with young talents like Gavin Williams and Tanner Bibee, not only strengthens the technical area, but also reaffirms the organization’s commitment to the development of its young pitching.
