Enrique Hernández Returns to the Dodgers: A Key Reinforcement for the 2026 Season

The Los Angeles Dodgers have announced the signing of versatile Puerto Rican player Enrique Hernández for one season, thus ensuring his return for the 2026 campaign. The agreement is for $4.5 million.

To make room on the roster, the organization placed right-handed pitcher Evan Phillips on the 60-day injured list.

Hernández, also known as “Kike”, confirmed the news through his social media with the message “3 in a row sounds great!”, anticipating his tenth season with the Dodgers and the 13th in the Major Leagues.

The Puerto Rican comes from winning his third World Series title with the Los Angeles team (2020, 2024 and 2025), establishing himself as an important player in the crucial moments of the team.

In the 2025 season, Hernandez, 34 years old, participated in 92 games, with a batting average of .203, 10 home runs, and 53 games as a starter. Although his numbers were not spectacular in the regular season, he demonstrated his value in the postseason, starting in 17 games and starring in key plays, including a decisive double play in the World Series.

Throughout his career, Hernández has played in various positions, including second and third base, shortstop, and outfield, making him a strategic piece for manager Dave Roberts.

Before returning to Los Angeles, the player also played for the Boston Red Sox, after his first successful stint with the Dodgers. Since then, he has maintained a constant connection with the Californian organization, returning on different occasions as a free agent.

With this signing, the Dodgers strengthen their roster and experience with a view to defending the title in the 2026 season.
