Ketel Marte Reaffirms Commitment to the Diamondbacks

SCOTTSDALE, Arizona – Dominican star infielder Ketel Marte has made it clear he wants to continue his career with the Arizona Diamondbacks, clearing up any doubts after an offseason filled with speculation about a possible trade. Mars showed up for spring training with a strong message: his intention was always to stay in Arizona. The player, who is also preparing to participate in the World Baseball Classic with the Dominican Republic national team, arrived early at Salt River Fields with his sights set on the upcoming Major League season. Although he began his career in the Majors with Seattle, it was in Arizona where Marte, 32, established himself as a star. Since his arrival in 2016, in a trade that involved other prominent players, Marte became a fundamental piece for the organization.
  • Three-time All-Star
  • Two-time Silver Slugger Award winner
  • Finished in the top four in National League MVP voting twice
  • Old Circuit Championship Series MVP in 2023
During the winter, general manager Mike Hazen expressed his willingness to listen to offers for the second baseman, in an attempt to readjust the payroll. However, Hazen made it clear that the price for Marte would be high, and ultimately no team met Arizona’s expectations.

It was never really close to happening.

Mars, for its part, admitted that, although it understands the dynamics of the business, some comments on social media affected it. This is baseball, I know how it works. But I love the D-backs and I want to be here. Hazen even apologized to the player for the public exposure generated by the rumors.

It’s not easy to constantly read about a possible change. Ketel handled everything with professionalism.

With the issue resolved, Marte focuses on the new season, where Arizona hopes to count on his offensive leadership and experience. The organization is confident that its star will have another outstanding year, while Marte reiterates that his priority was always to remain with the Diamondbacks.
