Kelvin Cruz starts the reconstruction of the Club La Matica in La Vega

La Vega – The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, initiated the reconstruction of the La Matica Club, with an investment of RD$32.8 million. This initiative is part of an integral plan to strengthen sports infrastructure in the province. The minister announced that the intervention will also cover the Clubhouse, ensuring a complete renovation of the facilities.

“When I enter a place, it’s to make a transformation that is visible. We are going to touch everything necessary so that the change is felt,” expressed Cruz.

It is estimated that the works will be completed in approximately three months, allowing the traditional Superior Basketball Tournament of La Vega to be held at the end of the year in optimal conditions. The Club La Matica, recognized as one of the most important clubs in Dominican basketball, will see its renovation as a boost for the sports and social development of the youth of La Vega.

Additional Projects

During his visit, the minister highlighted other initiatives underway and in process that will impact both La Vega and other locations in the country. Among them, the construction of the San Juan baseball stadium and the Olimpio stadium in San Francisco de Macorís. In addition, works such as the Olympic Center, including the sports arena, are being bid on. After Easter, the rehabilitation work on the Olympic pool in the province will begin. The minister also highlighted the completion of the Constanza multipurpose facility, as well as the interventions in the roofs of Tireo and Jima.

“We continue to work permanently to guarantee decent sports facilities throughout the national territory,” he affirmed.

Impact of the Work

The mayor of La Vega, Amparo Custodio; the provincial governor, Luisa de la Mota; and the president of Club La Matica, Julio Burdier, expressed their gratitude to the minister for promoting projects that encourage youth access to adequate sports and recreation spaces.

Scope of the Reconstruction

The project will cover an area of approximately 2,389 square meters, including the court, stands, service areas and outdoor spaces.
  • Installation of FIBA-approved wooden flooring.
  • Placement of professional backboards, digital scoreboard, and 24-second clock.
  • Replacement of seats with high-resistance plastic seats.
Also, the electrical system will be modernized, the metal structure will be maintained, and an aluzinc roof will be installed. The dressing rooms, bathrooms, and offices will be renovated; new stands with dressing rooms will be built; a meeting room and administrative areas will be enabled, in addition to general painting and the placement of perimeter railings.
