Minister of Sports Delivers Million-Dollar Sum to the COD for 2026 Central American Games

Santo Domingo – The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, made the delivery of 220 million pesos to the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD) this Tuesday. This economic contribution is intended for the preparation of the athletes who will represent the Dominican Republic in the XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026. The awards ceremony took place in the Juan Ulises García Saleta (Wiche) hall of the COD. In the act, in addition to Minister Cruz, were present engineer Garibaldy Bautista, president of the Olympic organization; José Monegro, president of the Organizing Committee of the games, and other relevant personalities from the sports field. The delivery of these resources is carried out by order of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, who has expressed his commitment to ensure that athletes have all the necessary resources for optimal performance in the sporting event.

The Minister of Sports highlighted the president’s support, emphasizing the importance of not sparing efforts in the preparation of the delegation that will represent the country.

Cruz also reported that, in addition to the allocation of economic resources, significant investments are being made in the renovation and construction of sports facilities that will serve as venues for the various competitions. The minister emphasized the country’s commitment to the organization of these games and highlighted the presence of the presidents of the different sports federations. Cruz indicated that they are working closely with the Ministry of Housing, the Organizing Committee of the Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026, and the COD to ensure the success of this multi-sport event.

About the Games

The XXV Central American and Caribbean Games Santo Domingo 2026 will be held from July 24 to August 8. Since its debut at the V Regional Games in Barranquilla in 1946, the Dominican Republic has participated 18 times and is preparing to organize a multi-sport event of this magnitude for the third time. The Dominican Republic hosted the XII edition of the Central American and Caribbean Games in 1974, held from February 27 to March 13 in Santo Domingo, and the XV version, from June 24 to July 5, 1986 in Santiago.
