Kelvin Cruz Starts 2026 with Important Announcements for Sports in Santiago Rodríguez

The Minister of Sports, Kelvin Cruz, has begun the year 2026 with a work agenda focused on the sports development of the province of Santiago Rodríguez. During his visit, he announced a significant investment for the remodeling of the local sports pavilion. The infrastructure, which has been in use for over 20 years, shows an advanced state of deterioration, including significant leaks during the rainy season. The complete renovation of this space is a priority for the minister. This initiative aligns with President Luis Abinader’s commitment to promote sports and provide support to the youth throughout the country. Minister Cruz has been fulfilling this directive, bringing hope and joy to the communities he visits. The announcement was made during the minister’s visit to a game in the final series of the local superior basketball tournament, where he also made a donation of 500 thousand pesos to support the event.

Minister Cruz reported that he communicated with President Luis Abinader to inform him about the conditions of the basketball pavilion and “he sent a message to all the young people, athletes and basketball lovers of the municipality of Sabaneta in Santiago Rodríguez, that in the next tournament they will have a completely new sports center”.

The pavilion’s remodeling will include roof renovation, a new FIBA-certified hardwood floor, the modernization of offices, bathrooms, and bleachers. The goal is to offer top-quality facilities for local athletes. With this intervention, Minister Kelvin Cruz completes his tour of the four provinces of the northwest line, including Valverde (Mao), Montecristi and Dajabón, benefiting thousands of young athletes in the region. The presence of Minister Cruz at the sporting event generated great enthusiasm among the attendees, as it had been more than a decade since an official of his level had visited the basketball tournament, one of the most competitive in the Cibao region. The minister was accompanied by the provincial governor, Glehany Azcona Torres; the mayor Félix Marte, the deputy Nicolás Tolentino López and other local authorities.
