Junior Pan American Games ASU2025: An Economic and Tourist Boost for Paraguay
Asunción hosted the Junior Pan American Games ASU2025, a sporting event that brought together delegations from 41 countries from August 9 to 23. This event left a significant economic impact and attracted a large number of visitors, according to government sources. The event generated revenue of $23 million and attracted more than 200,000 visitors. The National Tourism Secretariat (Senatur) highlighted that the event had a significant economic impact on the tourism sector, driven by the arrival of international visitors and the increase in cross-cutting services.The National Directorate of Migration reported that Paraguay received 200,000 visitors who identified themselves as tourists during the days of the competition. The Junior Pan American Games attracted visitors from all over America and other continents. In total, the competition featured the participation of 4,014 athletes, of whom 318 were Paraguayan and 3,696 were foreigners, representing 41 countries in America. 28 sports and 42 disciplines were contested. The arrival of foreign visitors linked to the games reached the figure of 10,272 people from 69 countries, including athletes, technicians, logistics personnel, authorities of the Panam Sports organization, Olympic committees, press, artists and family members. In 2024, the entry of 2.2 million tourists and day-trippers was recorded, who contributed 766 million dollars to the local economy, according to Senatur data.The event projected the image of the country as an important tourist destination on the continent, “strengthening the boom in national tourism globally”.
