Juan Soto Trains in Quisqueya: Soon in the LIDOM?
The New York Mets’ star outfielder, Juan Soto, has expressed his desire to participate in the current season of the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (LIDOM). The Dominican star was seen training this Tuesday at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal Stadium, home of the Tigres del Licey and the Leones del Escogido. Soto, who signed the highest contract in the history of professional sports, was supervised during his training by the manager of the Tigres del Licey, Gilbert Gómez, and a member of the Mets staff. The images shared on social media showed the player working on the field. The general manager of the Tigres del Licey, Audo Vicente, confirmed Soto’s presence on the Diamante Deportivo program. Vicente explained that Soto has repeatedly requested permission to play in the LIDOM, but so far, the Mets have not given their approval.Vicente added that Soto feels in optimal physical condition to play and that the Licey manager, Gilbert Gómez, has also been managing the permit with the Mets. Soto, who signed a 760 million dollar deal, had already requested to play at least ten games in the LIDOM. Soto’s motivation, according to Vicente, goes beyond the desire to connect with the fans. The blue manager explained that the player wants to play out of a family commitment, especially with his grandparents, who want to see him perform in his country. While waiting for the Mets’ final decision, Soto continues his training routine at the Quisqueya Stadium.Juan has requested permission four times in the last two weeks. Just 45 minutes ago we requested it again together and the answer is still no, although they told us they might communicate something to us between today and the next few days.
