Juan Soto conquers the Juan Marichal Award for the second time in MLB 2025

Santo Domingo. The New York Mets’ star outfielder, Juan Soto, was awarded the Juan Marichal Award, a recognition that celebrates the most outstanding Dominican player in the 2025 Major League Baseball season. Soto, who received the award from the legendary Juan Marichal, the first Dominican in the Baseball Hall of Fame, expressed his gratitude for being considered for this prestigious recognition.

This is the second consecutive year that Soto receives this award, becoming the only Dominican player to achieve it. Marichal, whose name honors this award, expressed his honor in presenting the recognition to Soto, highlighting him as a role model for Dominican youth.

It is an honor for me to present this year’s Juan Marichal Award to my namesake Juan Soto. He wins it for the second time, and I extend my warmest congratulations.

In his first season with the Mets, after signing a record $760 million contract, Soto proved his worth with 43 home runs, 105 RBIs, and 120 runs scored, in addition to a .263 batting average, which led him to be a finalist for the National League MVP award.

World Baseball Classic

During the ceremony, when asked about his possible participation in the next World Baseball Classic, Soto stated that he is ready to represent the Dominican Republic.

This would be the second time the powerful left-handed hitter participates in the tournament with the Dominican team. Regarding his possible participation with the Tigres del Licey in the Dominican Republic Professional Baseball League (Lidom), Soto indicated that he has already requested permission to play, but the final decision depends on the Mets. In this edition of the Juan Marichal award, former players Luis Castillo and Sammy Sosa also received honorary mentions for their recent inductions into the Hall of Fame of the Miami Marlins and the Chicago Cubs, respectively. In addition, Vladimir Guerrero Jr., first baseman for the Toronto Blue Jays, was recognized with an honorable mention for his 2025 American League Championship Series Most Valuable Player award.
