MIAMI – Dominican outfielder Juan Soto was scratched from the New York Mets’ lineup for Sunday’s game against the Miami Marlins due to an illness.
According to Venezuelan leader Carlos Mendoza, Soto arrived at loanDepot Park with a fever, body aches, and general malaise. These symptoms are similar to those of a flu that has affected several team members in the last week.
Originally, Soto was slated to be the designated hitter and bat third in the batting order. However, he was replaced by MJ Meléndez, while A.J. Ewing entered the lineup.
He’s sick, so he was left out of the lineup. He’s been dealing with this for the last three days and woke up with a fever today.
Despite his physical condition, Soto has been in a good offensive moment. In his last seven games, he is batting .333, with four home runs and seven RBIs.
The Mets have struggled offensively in the series against Miami, scoring only two runs in the first two games. The team entered Sunday with four losses in their last five games.
