José Leger Durán Joins the Chicago White Sox
Dominican baseball continues to reap success in the Major Leagues. José Joaquín Leger Durán, current manager of the Gigantes del Cibao in the Dominican League, has been hired as the first base coach of the Chicago White Sox.
The news was confirmed by the strategist himself this Monday, marking another milestone in his career.
The organization of the Gigantes del Cibao was quick to congratulate their manager through their social media, highlighting the pride it represents for the team.
Leger becomes the second Dominican to assume the role of first base coach this offseason, following in the footsteps of Gilbert Gómez, who was named to the same position with the New York Mets.

José Leger’s Career
Born in Santo Domingo, Leger, 43, had a college career at Georgia College and State University. He signed as a free agent with the Minnesota Twins and played in the minor leagues in 2005 and 2006 as a catcher and third baseman.
His experience in player development began in 2009 as a batting coach in the Dominican Summer League. He managed in the DSL with the Mets in 2010, and continued his rise in rookie and Class A teams between 2012 and 2017.
Between 2021 and 2024, he managed in AA within the Texas Rangers system. In the Dominican League, in addition to the Gigantes del Cibao, he has been a manager for Escogido and Águilas Cibaeñas, and has held coaching roles with Estrellas Orientales and Tigres del Licey.

Under Leger’s direction, the Giants have shown remarkable growth, arriving at the day with an 11-13 record, fueled by a streak of three consecutive victories and five wins in their last ten games, positioning them in the Round Robin qualification zone.
