CLEARWATER, FLORIDA – Dominican outfielder Johan Rojas has been suspended for 80 games without pay after testing positive for a banned substance, according to Major League Baseball (MLB).

Sanction Details

MLB revealed that the player violated the Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program by testing positive for boldenone, a performance-enhancing substance. The suspension will take effect at the start of the 2026 regular season. As a result of this sanction, Rojas will not be able to participate in the postseason if his team qualifies.

The Phillies fully support Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and deeply regret the news of Johan’s violation.

Philadelphia Phillies Statement
The 25-year-old player was at the team’s spring training camp at BayCare Ballpark, participating in the Grapefruit League. Before the suspension, the possibility of Rojas being part of the team’s roster for Opening Day was low, projecting as a secondary option in the outfield. In the previous season, the Dominican had a batting average of .224 with an OPS of .569 in 172 plate appearances. In his three seasons in the Major Leagues, his average is .252 with an OPS of .633, standing out for his defense in the outfield. Following the suspension, the Phillies’ management could consider options to reinforce the depth of their outfield for the 2026 season.
