Johan Rojas Suspended for 80 Games for Violation of Anti-Doping Policy
Dominican outfielder Johan Rojas has been suspended for 80 games without pay after testing positive for a banned substance. Major League Baseball (MLB) announced the sanction on Monday, detailing that the test revealed the presence of boldenone in the player’s system. The substance, used to enhance performance, violates the league’s Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program. The suspension will take effect at the start of the 2026 regular season. In addition to the suspension, Rojas will not be eligible to participate in the postseason if his team qualifies.Currently, the 25-year-old player was at the Phillies’ spring training camp at BayCare Ballpark, participating in the Grapefruit League. Before the suspension, his chances of making the roster for Opening Day were already limited, projecting as a secondary option. In the past season, Rojas had a batting average of .224 with an OPS of .569 in 172 plate appearances. In his three seasons in the Major Leagues, his average is .252 with an OPS of .633, standing out for his outfield defense. Following the suspension, the Phillies’ management might need to seek alternatives to reinforce their outfield for the 2026 season. The Phillies fully support Major League Baseball’s Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and deeply regret the news of Johan’s violation.
